Jaakko Itaaho

In his twenties Jaakko found himself as a highly sought-after extreme sports cinematographer and spent almost a decade travelling the world with little more than his backpack and 16mm camera. He quickly developed a passion for crafting visually stunning imagery in even the harshest of climates, which naturally led to his own highly cinematographic projects as a director of short films and commercials.

While he has largely left his ‘extreme’ background behind him, Jaakko considers the approaches he learnt back then to be amongst the most valuable in his directing toolbox. He likes to tackle problems head on and no matter what the difficulty is, he will always find a unique way to fix it. Describing himself as a “filmmaker from Finland” he has subtle hints of Scandi humour and style in much of his work, which contributes to his unique visual approach. With a great understanding of every step of production from start to finish, he loves a challenge no matter how big or small and to find the best creative solutions for them. Always full of new ideas and techniques to bring to his projects, and especially adept at problem solving, the sooner you get Jaakko involved in the process the more you’ll get out of working with him.
